The Move
Tuesday, August 5th started slowly. We thought the rest of the truck loading would have gone more quickly but it didn't. The U-Haul, Bob's car on the trailer behind the U-Haul, my van, my mother in law, Pamela's car were loaded to the top with just enough room for two people in the U-Haul, two people in Pammy's car and two people in my van. I almost forgot to mention that my mother in law, Pamela (Grammy Pammy to the kids) is moving with us to SC and will be living with us while we settle in to the new area. We didn't leave town until almost 5pm.
RJ started the ride with Bob in the U-Haul, Nick started in Pammy's car and Sam rode with me. The first thing she did when we got on the highway was open the package that Marissa had given her. It was a framed collage of pictures of them playing softball together and a special quote about friends. She also included a going away letter for Sam. Those were the first tears I had seen from her all throughout the goodbyes. Every time Sam switched cars, the frame went with her. And it was the first thing on the wall in her new room.
We drove a couple hours just to get a head start and stopped for the night in Melbourne. A good night's rest and we were off again on Wednesday, August 6th. It was another 11 hours before we arrived in Rock Hill and we were ready to be out of the cars but so excited to finally be here! One last night in a hotel and the next day we start the next chapter of our lives in our new home. We meet at the house at 10am. We do a quick walk through, get the keys and unloading begins around 11am. After just 3 hours the truck and all three vehicles are unloaded.
The House
We LOVE this new house! It's charming, it's cozy, it's spacious and it just feels like home. We have 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and a total of 2700 square feet. The master bedroom is a bedroom and a sitting room. The sitting area fits my oversized cozy chair and my computer armoire. Just like men have a man cave, in this house, this is the momma cave. I can hang out on my computer and do what I love to do there or hop on my cozy chair to read, knit or watch TV. We mounted the new TV on a bracket on the wall that swivels to face both sides of the room. Our bathroom has two sinks, garden tub, separate shower, and our walk in closet is inside the bathroom. Our room has tons of windows and a windowed door that leads to the wood deck out back. Sam and Pammy have the two downstairs bedrooms. Both have newly installed wood floors. Our bedroom and the hallway are carpeted. The front foyer, the living room and dining room are also wood. The living room is spacious, has a fireplace and two windows that provide tons of natural light. On the other side of the living room is the kitchen. It is long, has tons of cabinets and room for table and chairs at the back of the house. The kitchen table is surrounded by large windows and a door that leads out to the wood deck out back. On the other end of the kitchen is the dining room. No furniture for there yet but, for now, that is just fine. Off the kitchen is the laundry room with a pass through to the 2 car garage.
Next to the dining room there is a door that leads to what was originally called the bonus room. It is a 12' x 20' room with a sloped ceiling. The boys share this room. More room than they'll every need. Two bed, two dressers, two toy bins, a TV area for playstation and a TV area for watching TV with plenty of room to share. Next to this bonus room is the newly created media room that is about 90% complete. The owners started the construction before the husband got transferred to his new job in Georgia. The room is approx 600 sq ft. We will finish it and use it as the 'man cave'/sports watching room as well as a flop room for the kids. When my mother in law gets her own place, the boys will move to the downstairs rooms and Sam will get the large room that they are sharing now. It just needs an extra wall and at least a 1/2 bath that she will share with whomever is upstairs in the 'flop room' at any given time.
The backyard has a modest wood deck with stairs leading to the wooded yard. There is about ten feet of yard from the deck to where the trees start and then another 40-50ft back to the property line. So much potential for this yard is yet to be discovered.
Sounds wonderful. I am so happy for you guys. How far are you from Easley?
